5 Hours

A fishing charter adventure that takes you from Simon’s Town to Cape Point.

This is an ideal fishing trip for the entire family, novices and enthusiasts.

We offer half-day inshore trips that usually last for 4-6 hours. We remain within 1-2 miles from shore.  The trip remains within False Bay.

False Bay and the area around Cape Point is home to an abundance of marine wildlife. It is also home to a diverse variety of fishing areas.  Using light to medium tackle, you will be able to fish for various fish types, including Red Roman, Cape Salmon and Bronze Beam (Hottentot).

When venturing just beyond Cape Point, you will be able to troll and spin for a variety of game fish, including Yellowtail, Snoek, Skipjack, Katonkel and Bonito. Yellowtail fish are a very sought-after table fish that can weigh between 3 to 10 kg.  They generally put up a good fight, making your fishing experience all the more memorable.

A trip within False Bay will not only enthral you when you catch that ‘Big One’, but you will also be enchanted by the natural beauty of the Bay.  Majestic mountains slopes plunge towards the ocean and are teaming with wildlife.  It is not uncommon to encounter a pod of dolphins, Cape Fur Seals, African Penguins, Sea Otters as well as Southern Right Wales.  Occasionally you will see Humpback and Brydes Whales, Orca or even a Great White Shark.

Our boat departs twice a day, either early morning or early afternoon.

What to expect

Day 1 :

Arrive at False Bay Yacht Club, Simon's Town, where you will be greeted by our skipper, Peter, and signed into the club for the day.

Peter will give everybody on board a full safety and equipment briefing. You will also be issued with a life vest.

We will then depart via Simon's Town harbour with lovely views of the harbour, navy vessels and surrounding mountains.

Depending on the current fishing conditions and your fishing expectations, the boat will either travel towards Seal Island or along the coast towards Cape Point. Enjoy the sensation of the wind whipping through your hair and sea spray on your face as the boat speeds towards the fishing grounds. Please do bring you camera. You are encouraged to take copious photographs.

When you arrive at the fishing grounds, the skipper and/or deckhand will prepare the rods with lures and/or bait. They will cast the trolling lines for you or prepare a rod for you to spin for fish. If there is a fish on the trolling line, you will be handed the rod and reel to pull it in, under the watchful eye and guidance of our crew. Once you have landed the fish, the crew will remove the hook for you and after you have revelled in the excitement of pulling in a catch and taking numerous photographs, the fish will be placed into the onboard ice box.

After a great couple of hours out at sea, the skipper will turn the boat around and head back to the harbour. If you chose to have your fish cleaned and filleted, the spoils of your trip will be handed to you on arrival back at the pier.

You are more than welcome to enjoy a meal or a drink at the False Bay Yacht Club on your return.

Please do not forget to tip the crew.
