Full-Day Offshore Charter

DEEP SEA TUNA FISHING

This charter is one of our most memorable offerings.  A full day out at sea with large game fish on offer can become a life-changing experience for both the beginner and experienced angler.

The fishing grounds beyond Cape Point are word renowned for Tuna Fishing. We target the bigger species of pelagic fish like Yellowfin, Big Eye and Longfin Tuna.  Sometimes Dorado or Marlin get caught here too.  These large fish are known to put up an impressive fight, and when you land one of them you will remember it for the rest of your life.  You may even find yourself hooked and wanting to experience the thrill over and over again.

The best method to catch Tuna is either by trolling lures behind the boat or creating a chum line and fishing with bait while drifting in the current. Often, other pelagic fish like Skipjack, Katonkel and Dorado are landed in the same area.  From time to time we hook a Mako or Blue shark.  Although these fish will put up a memorable fight, we work on a strict catch and release basis for these fish types.

We recommend a very early departure or this outing in order to reach the prime fishing area approximately 40 nautical miles off Cape Point.  The sooner the departure, the more time you can spend trying to catch ‘The Big One’.

We use top of the range Shimano reels and comfortable stand up harnesses.  We will keep your catch on ice and will gladly clean and fillet your catch when you return to shore.

Itinerary

Day 1
What to expect

Arrive at Simon’s Town pier in the early morning where you will be greeted by an Abundance Fishing representative. A full safety and equipment briefing will be done, including the issuing of life vests.

Depart via Simon’s Town harbour with lovely views of the harbour, navy vessels and surrounding mountains.

The boat will either travel along the coast towards Cape Point and continue on towards the prime fishing grounds approximately 30 to 40 nautical miles from the shore. Enjoy the sensation of the wind whipping through your hair and sea spray on your face as the boat speeds towards the fishing grounds.

When arriving at the fishing grounds, the skipper and/or deckhand will prepare the rods with lures and/or bait. They will cast the trolling lines for you, or prepare a rod for you to spin for fish. If there is a fish on the trolling line, you will be handed the rod and reel to pull it in, under the watchful eye and guidance of our crew. Once you have landed the fish, the crew will remove the hook for you and after you have reveled in the excitement of pulling in a catch and taking numerous photographs, the fish will be placed into the onboard ice box.

If previously requested, the crew will serve you lunch, consisting of sandwiches, fruit juice/water and a snack. Alternatively, you can feast on the provisions you have brought along. Once your energy reserves have been replenished, the fishing continues.

After a great couple of hours at at sea, the skipper will turn the boat around and head back to the harbour. If you chose to have your fish cleaned and filleted, the spoils of your trip will be handed to you on arrival back at the pier.

Please do not forget to tip the crew.
